Texas Coffee Works, nestled along State Hwy 71 in Bastrop, TX, has established itself as a cherished gem for coffee enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. With rave reviews from patrons, it's clear that this coffee shop offers more than just a caffeine fix—it provides an experience. Customers like Katie have highlighted the outstanding drip coffee and a delightful selection of pastries, particularly emphasizing the homemade garden veggie cream cheese on their everything bagel. Such fresh and unique offerings elevate the standard coffee shop fare.
The welcoming atmosphere is a recurring theme; Korinne noted the friendly staff's ability to craft a perfectly balanced lavender mocha, reflecting their attentive approach to each customer's preferences. Mentioning spacious work areas, the shop is not only a quick stop but also a great place to hunker down with a laptop.
And let’s not overlook the kouign amann—a buttery, flaky pastry that Ben describes as the best he’s ever tasted outside of France. This, along with the intoxicating aroma of brewed coffee and freshly baked goodies, adds a warmth that makes every visit feel like home. Overall, Texas Coffee Works is a must-visit destination that combines quality ingredients, skilled craftsmanship, and a genuine sense of community.

this is one of my favorite lil coffee places!!! They have excellent pastry case selections, and I always love their drip coffee. I travel back and forth between Austin and Smithville a lot and this place stands up to some of my favorites in Austin. Great coffee, great atmosphere and great service. Love it! (Today I got the everything bagel with the garden veggies cream cheese and wow it was so good!!! The cream cheese had actual fresh carrot, celery and dill in it and it was amazing)

This was a pleasant surprise on my way back to Houston from the wine country! This place did not disappoint. I got a lavender mocha with an add shot, plus a gluten free banana bread. They were so friendly and welcoming! I told him I really don’t like overly sweet coffee and they were able to make it perfectly just from my description. The gluten free banana bread was also very moist and not dry or chalky at all (sometimes it is). Definitely homemade. The shop is also very spacious with great spots for working or studying. I’ll definitely stop again when I’m driving through.

Having been to a whole lot of coffee shops all over Texas and a few other places outside of Texas... .. . If you find yourself flying down the highway with coffee on your mind, do stop in to Texas Coffee Works. I'll definitely be letting folks know they need to stop in to get some coffee here. Great atmosphere. Friendly folks. Great coffee... and snacks.

Oh my gosh!! kouign amann!! What’s a kouign amann you ask? The short answer is head over to Texas Works between Smithville and Bastrop and find out for yourself. The long answer is kouign amann is a rich, buttery, caramelized, heavenly pastry from Brittany France (Bretagne). The dough is layered with sugar as well as butter, then folded and baked until it develops a caramelized, crispy, and golden crust while remaining soft and flaky on the inside. Best kouign amann I have had since France. Head over to Texas Works! From the moment you walk in, the staff greets you with warmth and you feel like family. The intoxicating aroma of ground coffee and fresh pastries enchants you and make you want to stay there forever. Leah knows everything about pastries and Michael makes the best coffee in the world, because they both have something in common: Love. They love what they do and it shows. Great ingredients, great people, that’s the winning recipe.

Searched for coffee shop on our route and Texas Coffee Works popped up amongst other coffee options. So glad we picked it! The coffee is wonderful and the pastries look stellar. We would have tried one but had just eaten lunch. If the aroma means anything, they must be amazing. They have coffee beans, snacks, super fun swag and enough bean and roast knowledge to make your head spin. Atmosphere...almost forgot. Super comfortable, welcoming and live music in Saturday! Don’t pass it up!

From a home coffee roaster junky, fresh roasted coffee, at perfection, is found here. We visited this shop while on a road trip. I had never heard of this place. This shop, coffee, and service are all top notch. They know their product and took the time to help in my selection, then ground a bit to my specifications so we could use at camp. My choice was Outpost a perfect full body blend. This was on a busy Thursday morning! Definitely put it on your Texas must visit stops, when touring anywhere near Bastrop!
